Kelth's eggs would hatch soon. Brecan thought of them hardening on the Sands. Not many of them. Probably violets, being smaller, would always lay smaller clutches and a rider had told him maiden clutches tended to be small.
Still, his dragon could still be in one of them. He sat in the candidate common room, fidgeting a little.
He was really, really nervous. His brown firelizard, Guess, kept flitting to his shoulder from it, popping between and returning, picking up on his human's mood.
When another candidate came in, he asked, "Are you ready?" before looking up.
Oh shards, it was Gwenduinne. The girl who made no secret about wanting to Impress a gold.
She shrugged and sat down. "I suppose I am." Guess stopped flitting around to regard Gwen's barred firelizard, Spunky. The two were about the same age.
Maybe Guess would chase Spunky one day. "Yeah. I guess you're probably hoping not to Impress."
She dropped a shoulder, shrugging one sided (Spunky was on the other side). "There's a small chance there might be a violet. Besides, I won't be rude to Shador..."
As the two talked, somebody else came in.
OOC: Anyone want to discuss the eggs?

"Are you talking about Kelth's clutch?"
Rosalind's voice was one of those you just... Knew who it belonged to. Not too mention the brightness and speed of which she talked. Practically skipping up to the two candidates, Rosalind paused for a moment to look at both flitters with wide eyes, before grinning back at the candidates as Kitty came ambling into the room as though she had all the time in the world.
"I'm so excited. Really, really, really excited. I can't wait. I mean, I was here for Nayarath's clutch but I think I kinda knew I wouldn't Impress, I didn't go to the touching last time. I think I wasn't even here, you know. This time I got to do it all and I'm reallynervoustoo." The last three words ran together as Rosalind tried to get them out fast enough that perhaps they wouldn't notice them. Rosalind, as many would say, was never nervous. That was only because she was usually too busy talking about what was happening to be nervous.
Kitty purred, rubbing up against each person's legs for a pet before trotting back to Rosalind, who promptly scooped her up in her arms. Even now, Rosalind was still moving, shifting from foot to foot slightly. "Aren't the eggs so pretty? I liked so many of them. What're you hoping to Impress? I know Gwen wants the gold or the violet, think there'll be a violet? I dunno, maybe. I think I might not Impress, Ma always said my mind is as unpredictable as a newborn runner, so I dunno. I'm thinking a green, so cute!"
A long pause followed this, Rosalind blushing slightly as she glanced from one to the other, "Am I talking too much?"

Brecan frowned. "No clue. I'll settle for a brown or a blue myself."
Gwen, one hand running down Spunky's breast, "There's a -small- chance of a violet, from what they're saying. If she'd been flown by a bronze, or even a tan, it would be better."
For his part, Brec grinned at the girl, "Yes. You're probably at least as nervous as I am, though, so it's allowed!"

Rosalind gave the girl a slightly confused glance, shifting Kitty so the feline was looking over her shoulder, much like one would hold a child. "I don't really understand. Isn't a green just as good as a violet? I don't understand and -- oh wow, she's adorable? It is a she isn't it? I've never seen a flitter like that, what her name? Oh um, what was I saying, oh yeah, isn't a blue just as good as a bronze?"
Laughing easily, Rosalind grinned back as him as Kitty purred and squirmed to be put down, upon touching the ground she promptly trotted over to rub against Bercan, her demand to be petted obvious as Rosalind shook her head. "No, I always talk this much it's kinda normal. I am nervous though but talking alot isn't a nervous thing. I just talk quicker when I'm nervous. I think you'd make a good brown rider, or maybe even a bronze!"
"Kitty wants a pat by the way." Possibly the shortest sentence she'd said since coming to the weyr. A hand gestured at her lovely feline as she kitty purred and mewed up at Brecan.

Brecan shrugged. "That's up to the dragons...hello, Kitty." He reached down and petted her rather tentatively...she seemed awfully small and delicate. "She has very soft fur," he added. "She's pretty."
He hesitated, then admitted, "I'm terrified. Gwenduinne, you've stood before."
She contemplated. "Don't let a hatchling run you over and don't worry about the audience," the girl said, "Once you're out there, you won't -notice- the entire Weyr is watching. Everything kind of narrows down to the eggs."

Kitty responded to all this by purring louder and rubbing herself along his hands, even rearing up to gently grab his hand in her paws and lick at him gently. It wasn't an everyday thing for Kitty, though the compliments were definately helping. Mewing softly, she rubbed her head against his hand playfully.
"Mm I guess so." The shortest ever for Rosalind, the girl glancing at Gwen with a nod, that was true. She'd Stood last time, but that hadn't made a difference, and she was even more nervous now. Last time she'd worried whether her parents would come, and they hadn't, probably running a message or something. They would be again this time too. Knowing her luck.
"She's got a point, I was really worried about my parents showing up. I'm the only girl, and I feel kinda bad sometimes, just leaving Mama with all those boys, especially my brothers, they smell so bad after training. I guess I just wanted to see soemthing new. You can pick her up if you like, she likes you."

Brecan shrugged. "Anyway...it's up to the dragons. I should eat something, maybe that will help."
Gwenduinne flicked back her braid. "How about I go try and finagle some treats out of the cooks?" she offered.
See, she could be nice. Sometimes.
