A long time ago, before any man or dragon could even remember, life was not great in the world. Centuries had past of war and turmoil, the very lands themselves were divided from fighting. Some humans and dragons fought as one, others combated, separating the pairs, forcing them apart.
An evil tyrant dragon was the source of the war, one he spoke of in a tongue unknown to all, accept his followers. He called it the Cruor Aryte, which literally translated into 'blood war.' He was a vicious beast, with only one notion in his head, to destroy, to maim, to rule. It was his sole purpose to fight and do horrible atrocities of war, and he had an army of vile dragons and humans to follow him. This massive dragon, named Abaddon, had much of the world's land in his claws, all was turning into a desolate wasteland, known as the Abyssus. Any who went into this land never returned, those who did were worshiped as gods, until the gods turned on their past friends.
But a small area remained pure, this was the land of Aether, where hope survived. But even here was torn by war, as much as they wanted peace, they couldn't have it while the war was clawing and distorting the land. Many a rider and dragon died in the fight for their freedom. Until finally one dragon rose, she was a grand creature of the name Angelus, many a human and dragon looked up to her. She alone went to the Abyssus to fight Abaddon, to fight for their freedom.
Their battle was long and hard, each combatant unable to get a leg up over the other, some records even say that the battle lasted days upon days. Until finally an end came, Angelus using the last of her strength to entombed the both of them deep in the earth, their bodies turned to stone, never to be found again.
After that came a time of great peace, the Abyssus withdrew to only a small land, the once barren lands soon came to life again, people slowly turned back to their devastated lands once again. And while the people Aether mourned the loss of one of their greats, they also rejoiced, for Angelus's sacrafice came calm and tranquility.
But one place remembered, the last remaining fortress from the war, dragons were creatures of high magnificence there, some even going so far as to pair with humans, creating bonds unbreakable by even death itself. But these are only a select few of people, while there are many who strive for the grandeur of having a dragon, the dragon's remain prideful creatures, and are not easily swayed to the humans. Only when a dragon found one that it personally liked, that they knew they were made for, and knew it could be with forever, did they bond together. A mark came onto both the hides of human and dragon, a sacred rune. But this did not come without a price, each dragon and human pair must face the eyes that reject them, scorn them. It even went so far as to some pairs being attacked by other people, who thought that the dragons were only beasts of burden.
And while the seams of peace started to unravel, an old adversary was lurking, awaking in its desolate home. The Abyssus dragons were starting to come back, but only fleetingly. Glimpses of wicked horns, and sharp scales were reported, but none were believed, the evil dragons were dead, and never to return. Or so they thought. For it was true, the Abyssus dragons were awakening, some banding together, forming a council of sorts, all the evil dragons having one goal, and one alone. Bring back Abaddon, to make the world theirs again. But they kept hidden, the Aether pairs as of yet unknowing to their presence.
Now only time will tell, with the Aether riders prevail? Or will they be killed out by those who don't like them. Or will it be the Abyssus dragons finally come out of hiding, and bring back their supposedly dead leader and make the world theirs once more?
