History of the weyr:
About 5 turns after avias's plan was put into action natural disasters started occurring left and right. All the technology they had gained was being destroyed. But not before one man made a startling discovering. When the red star was blasted off orbit, the force that radiated off it was enough to disrupt other planetary orbits. The red star would never bother them again, but the another star dubbed the Crimson star was knocked into a orbit that passed Pern. The Crimson star held the same threat as it's brother star did. Only worse. A pass was 100 years instead of 50. The man quickly printed off his discovery and made his way to the weyrs. Before the man could share is discoveries, he died in a fire, and the papers that held the information for perns survival vanished.
As far as the Dragonriders knew, Avias's plan worked! No more thread ever again! 198 turns passed and their was no sign of the threat that had once terrorized all the people of Pern. The dragon riders declined and about 50 years before the pass should have started, the last golden queen went between with the kings. There were now only about 100 dragons left on Pern so they combined to make Riafe weyr on the northern continent. The holders decided the dragons knew their usefulness was up, and Lord holders refused to tithe to the weyr any more and Riafe was in bad conditions. New colors started showing up including a new queen.
Now, three turns before the pass starts again, the last dragon queen has died off. With the Crimson star coming into orbit, Pern is about to be thrown into turmoil once more, and nobody knows it. A few days before the new turn stated, a startling discovery was made. A record of the discovery of the Crimson star's discovery was found in an old ruin. The weyr is in panic.
A group of 15 older riders got to gathered in secret. They were old enough to remember about the Golden queens and Bronze kings. They hatched a daring plan and went between to retrieve the last clutch known to contain a Gold dragon. Three of the riders got separated and brought back two eggs from a shadow clutch containug a Shadow queen. IN all they retrieved 13 eggs and layed them on the hatching sands. The rest of the dragon riders dragon riders found a clutch of thirteen eggs on the sands containing two queens, and they don't know how it got their. Their are no more clutching dragons on pern so the future of dragon race lies within this clutch. two more turns until thread falls again and their were less than 100 dragons in number.
