Fingers gently flewed to scratch the gravel's fur, though his whiskers tickled a little which was half the reason for the big smile that was on his face."He's kinda cute, though I don't think I'm in in for a new pet when I've got Terror..." The little brown firelizard was more then enough for him, who tended to bite or scratch him once every few days.If he took that kinda of treatment from his own pet, a kagan nip should be nothing.
Weren't you going? Wuith reminded his rider in a teasing manor, not dwelling on his own problems with Nayarath. Oh shut up, I'm allowed to have friends he pushed back.
"I forget the story, how did you find him again?" L'han seemed to be looking for excuses not to leave now, But to be truthful he didn't know the tale.

Squeak snuffled happily, rubbing his head against the base of L'han's hand to show his appreciation for the attention. Kora smiled slightly, watching them. "I kind of like these guys more than felines and canines; they're not particularly useful but they're sure cute." It was nice having something fuzzy that followed her around; fire-lizards were sweet but cuddling with them couldn't quite compare. "Terror is a sure deterrant from pets though," Kora had to agree.
"How'd I find him? Nayarath complained about a bunch of rats under the couch. It turned out to be a litter of these." Not her most descriptive version of the story, but it cut it. "It's surprising that no one else has picked up more of them, now that I'm watching, they're all over."
I think right there you said twice as much as you've said all year, Nayarath commented dryly. Hers was always more comfortable discussing things that had nothing to do with Weyr affairs, not a good trait for a Weyrwoman, but at least this wasn't odd. Nayarath could make fun of Kora for it.

Now that they seemed like friend's the tanrider was trying to coax the creature into letting him pick him up. They were certainly soft, and much more friendly then most firelizards. At least Squeak was friendly despite being warned he bites.
"Do they still bother Nayarath? They are living under her couch aren't they?" L'han could see how the gold might have thought they were rats, and might hear them scampering around from time to time. It wasn't something most people would be able to put up with, and Nayarath wasn't known for being the most patient of dragons.
"As cute and cuddly they are, I don't think I could let one of these poor creatures deal with what horrors Terror might inflict."

Squeak wasn't about to let anyone but Kora pick him up, and backed away uncertainly when L'han acted like that was what he planned to do. He could pet him, but the Kagen wasn't so sure about more than that.
"No, she had Soot chase them out and so far they haven't come back. I don't think they minded having their young taken, but they did mind being attacked by a lizard." She shrugged. They hadn't bothered her too much, but it was best to have Nayarath in a good mood so it was alright to have the little family gone.
Kora laughed. "Maybe you'd get lucky and they'd calm him down." As long as he didn't get a Gravel, anyways. A Kagen like Squeak would probably do nothing but become a subject for Terror's bullying and run away.

"Anything might be worth a try, but i would have to find them again." Funny, they seem to be the only furry creature that's not completely afraid of dragons if they chose to nest next to the weyr of the biggest dragon on Pern. Well it hadn't been for long since Nayarath had eventually chased them away when any other dragon might have kept them. Well, some of the greens might have tried to eat them or even the weyrlings looking for something more their size to hunt or play with.
L'han sighed sadly when it was clear Squeak wasn't going to let himself be handled by the tanrider. Didn't blame him though, the tanrider was sure he would have done the exact same thing if a strange, hugely tall thing came at him. Luckily there was nothing larger then dragons that existed so he would never find out.
"If they were in the Weyr they might still be around somewhere living under another couch. I'm sure some others are interested in a pet more... cuddly?" Saying such a girlish word left a funny taste in his mouth, and he was sure he had made a funny face when he said it. "Please, never let me say that again."

"Yeah." Kagen were all over now, but Kora hadn't seen their young at all lately. From how the adults acted around people, she doubted they could be tamed. They were like wild fire-lizards; not exactly terrified like some animals might be, but they definitely didn't want much to do with humans.
"Why ever not?" Kora didn't see anything wrong with cuddly things, or the word itself. "And yes, I'm sure there are plenty of people. I know there were a couple females in the litter found in here, maybe if they ever breed we could have a few more around to share."
Squeak wasn't particularly interested in that, and seeing that the Tanrider seemed disappointed now, decided he had better get closer to Kora. He didn't want people angry with him. As he pressed against His again, she absently stroked the young Kagen's head and he snuffled happily.

((I just thought of something, is this dated before or after Kelth's hatching?))
"The word cuddly just seems strange coming from me, I don't want to ruin it for everyone else." L'han said with playful grin. It just wasn't a very manly word, and he couldn't remember the last time he had heard anyone say it. "Let me have my pride as a man, dear Kora, or Wuith might lose respect for me."
No i wont The tan replied, but in his mind there was no way he could love his rider any less. But you could flirt with a few females from time to time he added criticly.
"And now he's got it in my head that there is a problem with my love life..." the tanrider said as he rolled his eyes. His dragon's wasn't much better.

((It's after, and after the hatching feast too =P))
Kora shrugged. "Think what you like then. I don't mind cuddly things, or describing things as such." There was nothing wrong with men doing so either. "And I doubt Wuith would lose respect for you."
Unless he somehow lost him a Flight, Nayarath pointed out sarcastically. Not that she planned to let Wuith win any in the near future.
Kora raised her eyebrows. "I wasn't aware you had one- not to be rude or anything..." She trailed off uncertainly, not having meant to let any of that slip out. The thought had appeared in her mind sort of as a joke, but she didn't know what L'han would think.

"And that's what he thinks is wrong with me..." L'han said as he rolled his eyes. Was it honestly his fault that he either had no interest or his feelings weren't returned? He didn't have his dragon's luxury of being a finely grown male, or being coaxed by flirty greens to chase them (which he very rarely ever did). Anyway, he had long given up on worrying about it. Wuith's flights would be all he needed.
"Actually, I just remembered that Liona has a grown sand kagan. Maybe i should ask her about getting myself one." In the time the rouges had been here Liona had left maybe once or twice, but only the watchrider on duty had seen in he dead of night. It had been quite a surprse to suddenly find a gravel and sand pair running around the room one morning.

"Ah." Well, if one cared, having no love life was a problem. But dragons had a habit of doing something about that, whether their riders wanted it to happen or not. Nayarath put in that Kora didn't have a love life either, and she didn't have to change that. They could always do like that Greenrider who always kicked the winners of his dragon's Flights out of the weyr the next morning.
That's not very nice though. Kora really couldn't see herself doing that.
I could do it. Nayarath rumbled. She could do anything.
"Only if it mates." Kora shrugged. She wasn't sure how much she liked the idea of people asking the rider for anything anyways; even if it was only a Kagen, it gave her some sort of connection to the Weyr and those in it.
Mine doesn't want yours bothering with Liona, Nayarath told Wuith. Greenriders aren't worth it.

Wuith passed on Nayarath's message, which caused L'han to raise an eyebrow. What struck him was the use of Liona's name, as dragon's rarely ever spoke of human names and expecially a rider's without huge emotional backing. Very rarely in hate as this case seemed to be. In this case it seemed to be a stern disliking that was triggering the phenomina.
"Liona's been improving the better S'saer gets, and they aren't going to just disappear because you and Nayarath want them to. They are older and more experienced then we are, we might be able to learn from them." L'han told her sternly. Despute amongst riders would neer end well. "The last thing we need is for you to act badly infront of the Weyr, for they might take the rouge's side and deside to join them."

Kora frowned at L'han's sudden rebuke, not exactly sure what had brought that on. All she had done was doubt the potential of his getting a Kagen from Liona, and there wasn't really anything wrong with that. Nayarath? The Gold refused as possibility of her being behind the Tanrider's sudden change in mood, saying it was obviously his crazy dragon's fault.
"We have some older riders here already," Kora replied, a sour tone touching her voice. "K'laon and I'mny, for example, have been riding for some time. And they are loyal the Weyr, not just here because one of their friends got injured." She didn't dislike the rogues for that, she had nothing against them at all. Nayarath didn't like their dragons, but what the Gold thought couldn't be helped much.
Kora blanched as L'han continued. "What are you talking about?" She knew even Nayarath hadn't said anything that had anything to do with what the Tanrider was saying now. Squeak bumped Kora's wrist nervously, not liking her sudden change in mood.
Nayarath's eyes whirled, the Gold didn't like this either. She didn't like Hers being bothered by anything other than herself, and had no clue what Wuith could have said to make His suddenly turn on the Weyrwoman. Maybe Yours should take that leave he was going to some time ago now, Nayarath told the Tan, now even more irritated with him. He has no reason to get mad at Mine.

He's not mad as he didn't raise his voice, he's annoyed and he doesn't mean it! He is not thinking and coming to wrong conclusions, obviously. Wuith pleaded Nayarath not to be too hard on his, and could have said more but kept his mouth shut. Like the fact Nayarath had been hard on Jorindath and upset hers when Kelth had her clutch. L'han was still fond of that girl, and Jorindath was a beauty of violets.
Apologise! Kora did nothing wrong! Wuith pressed, knowing full well Nayarath was blaming this whole thing on the tan which wasn't what he wanted in the least. L'han blinked in surprise for a moment, as not een he knew what he was doing. He had let Nayarath's words pluck a nerve in him. "I'm sorry Kora, I should have held my tongue. Nayarath hasn't been all that kind on Wuith as of late, and its finally catching up on me."
Greenriders aren't worth it, his mother was a greenrider! Who... wasn't in the weyr! She had never quite been herself after his father Z'nol died and had decided to return to their old home. Giloni might be one of the rouges now, why hadn't he thought of it before?! "I'm sorry to have over stayed my welcome, but there is something I need to do. Please forgive me." There was no hidding the slight excitement in his voice as he hurried from room down towards the Lower Caverns wile he still had the time. He just had to ask...

((I only wrote Nayarath as saying Liona because I can't ever remember her dragon's name. =P If I'd realized that would have such an effect I would have taken the time to find it out, sorry. >.< And Kora's mom was a Greenrider too! xD *brick'd*))
Obviously. Nayarath snorted. Not thinking isn't befitting of a Weyrleader though. Just another strike against the pair. The Gold gave her head a toss, pleased that this ending would leave Kora less inclined to fight her over the potential winner of Nayarath's next Flight.
"Don't blame it on Nayarath," Kora snapped. "She may not be nice, but it's your choice to take offense at what she says." She was a sharding Gold anyways. There wasn't a lot to be said on that.
Squeak squeaked unhappily as L'han abruptly left, not happy about the sour note this had all ended on. Kora wasn't either, and prodded Nayarath for explanations. But even she had no idea what had the Tanrider so excited though, and wasn't in any mood to talk to Wuith again.
Have you ever realized how often males use the excuse of not thinking? Nayarath changed the subject with the sudden question, feeling a need to muse over this. We need to find one who doesn't.
