Kora was reluctant to wake up, for the first time in quite a while she was warm because of something beside the hides and felt no desire to move away from the presence beside her. Even opening her eyes seemed like it would break the good feeling; it was giving in to waking, at any rate. She felt little from Nayarath past the usual pleasure that followed a Flight, the Gold was still fast asleep. She had no duties but to replenish the dragons, and had just finished one part of that. Until her eggs were laid, she had no jobs at all past keeping alive and healthy.
Finally, Kora opened her eyes, her vision taking in the face of D'mas not far away. Somehow, she had still been half expecting L'han, but obviously that wasn't the case. The Tanrider she knew better... but at least Kora had only gotten good reports on D'mas from the WeyrlingMaster. D'mas was plenty handsome at any rate, she could work with this.
"Morning," Kora yawned as she spoke, the last of her greeting sort of getting swallowed. She wasn't all that tired- Nayarath's Flight had actually occurred during the day, albeit a little late, they had all had time to sleep some afterwards- but sore, and not eager to do anything. Lying in bed and getting to know the new Weyrleader through a little conversation sounded like an idea to her.
Nayarath still slept, curled tight next to her new, and hopefully much better, mate. Lilac and Soot were little different, both fast asleep between the forepaws of the dragons. Squeak, being the obedient and still terror-struck creature that he was, still huddled beneath the bed. He hadn't fallen asleep until well after everyone else had, and now that His was up, was too... but afraid of coming out. Something was different, and the night before had been a frightening one to the little Kagen.

D'mas had been awake for a some time, though he wouldn't be able to guess how long. Might have been minutes, could have been a candlewark or more, but it hadn't been wasted. Even in the eternal darkness of his sleep he had known thing would be very different when he woke and those thoughts and feelings had followed him into conciousness. As much as he had wanted to sleep on his mind was too alert to the enevitable truth.
Never in the slightest second had he thought Kayth would catch Nayarath. Sure! He had joked and challenged the other bronze and tanriders that he would be the next Weyrleader, they all did it! Had he ever been completely serious about his chances? Like half the Weyr D'mas had thought L'han would reclaim the title and responcibilty, but it wasn't a secret that the tan catching Kelth in her last flight had hurt his favor in the senior queen's eyes.
But Kayth had won! The coppery, wherry-brained bronze had actually done something right for a change! And that made him, D'mas, leader of Nyocia; Weyrleader. It was almost daunting, he was bearly out of weyrling training and was suddenly out of the blue proclaimed near full responcibility of every dragon, rider, and life on Pern! There was no going back, no denying it, no abandoning the position... He would not be another Y'xem, even if it killed him.
Kora's words caused him to look down at the Weyrwoman, smiling gently. "Good morning, sleep well?" Secretly he doubted she hadn't, not after yesterday though if she felt anything he did they would be slow moving. The man swore he wouldn't be able to walk staight for days still but she was probably worse off. Feeling almost guilty for this D'mas kissed Kora's forehead and held her to him. "Ok, now im sure yesterday really happened." He joked.

“Well enough.” Kora smiled at him. D’mas sounded and looked much more awake than she felt; how long had he been up? Why hadn’t he woken her? “You?” Hopefully he hadn’t had a bad night, although everything had to come as a shock to the Bronzerider. Maybe she shouldn’t have let the dragonlust control her after Kayth caught… now that she thought about it, Kora had to wonder how that had made D’mas feel. His dragon’s first win had been the senior queen… that had to be upsetting enough.
Kora blushed slightly as he kissed her, it was, once again, something she wasn’t very used to. “Always a good thing to realize.” She grinned. "It's going to keep you busy." But they didn't have to deal with that right now, Kora wasn't going anywhere and doubted D'mas had any plans to either. She nestled a little closer to him instead.
The Weyr probably wouldn't change a lot, even with a new Weyrleader, L'han had been doing a good enough job that there wasn't much to be fixed. Kora didn't know if D'mas would be choosing a new Weyrsecond... but sort of hoped not. But there were some things to be arranged... they needed a Weyrlingmaster, for example.
Mine, hush. Nayarath didn't go to the trouble of opening her eyes, or even letting herself look in the slightest like she was up. But why was Hers worrying about business right now? She had to at least wake her mind enough to put a stop to that train of thought.
Kora shook her head, smiling slightly. Thanks, dear heart. Was everyone up then, and just not telling her? The possibility that she was last was a bit embarrassing.

D'mas had to take a moment to how best to describe this happy-yet-kind-of-scared feeling he had. It was alright to be scared sometimes, the people of the Weyr risked their lives as a living. If they couldn't be scared of that, then maybe he shouldn't be scared of his future for about the next Turn, more or less depending on how events progressed. "Maybe the best sleep of my life! I can definately say I will not forget yesterday or today for as long as I live, and in a good way."
Very few became Weyrleaders and him so soon. As long as he did his best in the role as he possibly could, he would save himself embarassment and dishonor for the rest of his life long after he had been replaced. For now however, he was in bed with Kora. It was not a time to speak or think of what would or could be, holding the goldrider close to him lovingly.
"Let's not speak of work now, not at least we put some clothes on." And with a quick little look around with a small laugh, "And that could take a while when we are finally ready to face the Weyr." Their garments had been thrown in every direction in their haste to comply with the dragonlust. For Kora it wouldn't be much of a problem but for him he couldn't really leave half dressed. Might be an interesting scene though...
Kayth curled tighter into Nayarath, having just heard her words. He didn't want to move and feelings of protectiveness for his queen remained. It was only natural, the eggs that were starting to develop inside her were his and he would not abandon the clutch nor the mother. D'mas knew the bronze wouldn't be chasing any barreds like he had originally thought, not until long after Nayarath had chosen another mate.

"Really?" Kora smiled, doubting D'mas was actually talking about sleep. "Someday I hope you get better ones." She kissed him lightly, teasing. Though she didn't know whether D'mas had slept with anyone before or not, this reaction made it seem like he hadn't. Definitely not after Flights, anyways. The idea was unsettling as well as likeable, Kora put it off for considering later.
Kora sat up some as D'mas mentioned clothes and looked around. "You want to get going already?" Her tone was obviously reluctant, although she wasn't about to deny that they couldn't just hang around in bed all day. In her opinion though, she didn't need to get moving quite yet. Still, if D'mas wanted to... she would.
You could just show some authority. Nayarath yawned now and nuzzled Kayth. At least we're not going anywhere. Her eyes whirled as she rested her head on his shoulder. Although, unlike her rider, curling up with a mate wasn't something Nayarath necessarily missed, she did like having someone to be with just then. And Kayth was already acting as she liked, protective, close. He was a big Bronze, a bit odd in color, but she didn't mind that. Nayarath was already fond of her new mate.
Kora looked around absently, locating her clothes in case they did start dressing but not about to make the first move. She could do without verbal authority here, probably. "It's not like anyone's expecting us to do anything today." Flights just sort of led to the thought that the participants would take some time to just be together. "Not this early anyways. Unless you're hungry."
Breakfast might be nice, and Soot, at least, immediately perked up at the idea.

D’mas gave a small laugh at her suggestion of getting up out of bed. Kora didn’t seem eager to leave their safe haven, something he couldn’t help but be proud and happy about. She had kissed him, which was a very good sign in his mind. The Weyrwoman seemed to approve of the new Weyrleader. At least so far. “Why get up? I know there isn’t any rush.”
He had bedded girls before, only two though. Being a womanizer had no appeal towards him, finding more pleasure in knowing the girl first. Flights left no time for such things, till know the bronzerider had had minimal contact with Kora till now which was next to none. It was certainly different, not quite unnerving, but he could make up for lost time eventually.
Kayth rumbled deep in his chest gently, pleased by his queen’s affections towards him. Having pushed himself to out fly all other males in the weyr he would that to think that not even that made him good enough in Nayarath’s eyes. The fact that he was dwarfed slightly by the gold, it didn’t faze him the slightest. The bronze was confindent their clutch would be a good one, if not the best. He would be siring the clutch to the loveliest queen on Pern, of course it would be good he thought with self satisfaction.
“No, I’ll be fine for now. Unless you’re hungry of course.” D’mas settled himself back down into the furs, pulling Kora against him. It was nice just to lay in bed, having a beautiful woman beside him made it so much easier and pleasant.

Kora shrugged. "You were the one who sounded like you thought we should." But apparently he didn't think so, and that was fine with her. Kora would give him the benifit of the doubt in his confusing reply too; D'mas was sure to have a whole lot on his mind at the moment. She hadn't usually given men much credit for thinking, but now was one of those times that she expected they ought to be. To some extent, anyways.
"No." Kora amiably nestled against D'mas as he pulled her close again. "Looks like Soot's hungry, but he can get his own food if he's desperate." She was content to wait. The Tan, now that his sleep was interrupted, felt that he needed some sort of sustenence, even if it wasn't in the form of edibles. He fluttered over to where D'mas and Kora lay and nuzzled His' hand, hoping for a few pets.
Lilac grumbled unhappily as her pillow flew away, but made up for it quickly enough by crawling onto Nayarath's paw and deciding the ridges of the knuckles in the giant Gold's toes would work. Lilac was a biggish flitter, but that made no difference when she sat against her much larger sister.
Kora, observing the Violet and giving Soot his scratches, raised her eyebrows before glancing at D'mas. "Do you have any fire-lizards?" Had he been to one of Lilac's hatchings before? She couldn't remember. A lot of people came to those, and the only ones that stuck in her mind were the pair that had fought at the flitter's first hatching.

D'mas hadn't thought that he suggested getting up, destinctively remembering himself saying 'when we are finally ready', but he let it go. It would be an arguement not worth fighting, and he did not want to anger Kora in the slightest. Not to mention have Nayarath annoyed at his bronze. This morning was going well so far, hopefully every flight Kayth won would be as pleasent. Wishful thinking but a man can hope.
He watched the little tan’s affectionate antics. Soot seemed well behaved enough, unlike two thirds of firelizards. Then again most of the higher ranked had the brains to know better. “I have two, a brown and barred. I think they were from Meagan’s gold if I recall” D’mas answered her. It had been quite a long time ago, Memory would be ready to rise any day now.
“But you can meet them later, they are probably waiting around the kitchens or dinning hall for food scraps.” Reaching over he made small shooing gestures to the firelizard that had intruded into their bed. “She’s mine for now, no food here.” In his mind he focused on an image of all the food that would currently being served in the dinning hall. It normally worked with his pair, Soot might not since he was a stranger.
Kayth approved of his rider’s actions, wanting him to be more protective of what was now his. Niether wanted to be replaced, especially so soon. It had been a fight just to get here, just to cause an argument and lose favor already! Well, the bronze wasn’t going to let it happen. Ever.

A Barred and a Brown... both her flitters had potential to be interested in them, although it was hard to say with Lilac. A Brown had won her last Flight, but that didn't mean that she still liked them. "Mmm." Meagen.... Kora remembered her. She had caused trouble at Lilac's first hatching, and why had she even come when D'mas had just made it clear that the Brownrider's Gold clutched Barreds too?
"Hear that Soot? You can go make friend with D'mas' fire-lizards over breakfast." She smiled at the Tan, who was currently feeling very confused. Why was he being shooed? But if His was saying he could go, he would go eat. He took off, moments later flicking between.
"Not even going to share me with my flitts, huh?" Kora smiled jokingly. "I'll warn you now, Lilac won't like it if you ever try and shoo her. But she's usually not too intrusive either." So they would probably be okay. Soot was used to following orders, although usually they just came from the Violet. Very little got him down.
Nayarath rumbled softly. Let's see if they can find a word that will bring Mine's rat out of hiding. Squeak was friends with Lilac, and would do as Kora asked, but the Gold was pretty-sure he didn't have any immediate 'attention' words like most fire-lizards seemed to. Nayarath would make a game out of anything, and figuring out more about Squeak seemed like a good one to her.

“Not right now, I’m not.” D’mas gave her a cheeky grin before kissing her again. “Oh Lilac wouldn’t let me hear the end of it if I did, and possibly turn my own against me.” It was a good thing the violet hadn’t come in then, to think he would have to share Kora between two queens. Well it wouldn’t be so bad to come third in Kora’s priority.
A hand slipped around Kora’s waist playfully as mention of the weyrwoman’s kagan came up. “You have a gravel around here, don’t you? Do you think we traumatized him?” Being timid the little creature would have been scared witless having to hear dragonlust, let alone witness it.
((fail...))

Kora smiled. "I doubt she'd go that far. But I guess you never know with queens." Lilac had never been vindictive, but Kora had to wonder about her sometimes. Mostly Lilac just liked to always be in charge, much like Nayarath. The difference was that she only cared to be in charge of Soot and would simply not listen to anyone else.
Kora laughed at that. Traumatized? "Most definitely. We'll probably have to wait for Lilac to wake up to get him out." He had hidden under the bed, if she remembered right; telling him to stay there probably hadn't been the best idea. "I can sometimes feel how he is, like with fire-lizards, but I think he trusts her a lot more." Whatever bond she had been building with him had probably fallen back quite a few steps over the course of the night.
Yours has Mine happier than she's been in a while, Nayarath told Kayth absently. Maybe it was just the Flight still wearing off, but it left the Gold plenty pleased to know Kora was happy. And the Gold already had a lot to be happy about too, all this was very good.

“Poor little guy…” D’mas really sympathized for the creature. Under the bed?! That would have been the worst place to be, hearing the thudding, groans and cries right above his head. To scared to stay, too scared to leave it seemed. Would the gravel ever approach him after this? They would have to see when the violet brought out Squeak out.
I am glad, Mine is very happy too. We wish only to make you happy Kayth nuzzled Nayarath affectionately. It didn’t matter how things stayed exactly the way they were, as long as they did. The bronze still didn’t feel like getting up, though eventually with their riders he would organize the Flights to Nayarath’s liking.
“I guess we shouldn’t do anything to scare him any further.” It was a bit of a mood breaker, but D’mas thought of only of Kora’s rocky relationship with her kagan.

Kora nodded. "He'll be all right, but it'll probably take him a while to get over it." And a lot of cuddles, but those weren't bad. "I'm sure he'll learn to like you too." Especially if Lilac decided to put in a good word, and it was a lot easier to get on her good side than her bad.
"No," Kora smiled slightly. She hadn't had any plans for that. "I'll have to start thinking ahead when it comes to him." Maybe if he found a mate and got a better idea of what was going on he wouldn't be so frightened, but Kora wasn't sure how Kagen did that, and wasn't sure Squeak would dare go after a female anyways. He hadn't really interacted with them yet, and that probably wasn't good for his... social abilities.
A good goal. Nayarath purred softly. Lilac lifted her head again, a bit bothered by the noise that the Gold so rarely made, but figured it wasn't going to hurt her, so soon the Violet was asleep again. No one was going anywhere, so neither would she.

"What about letting him play with other kagan's?" D'mas thought it at least sounded like a good idea. Only days before he had met Beka's baby gravel, and there were a few others. A good mixture of juviniles and babies within the Weyr. "You could have a little play date for everyone with kagans. It might be helpful when they start mating."
Kayth purred in delight. His beautiful, magestic, graceful, intellegent, wise queen! He could not have chosen a better female to chase and catch, and now no other would surfice. Not even another queen.
"I hope Squeak will learn to like me..." D'mas was thoughtful for a moment, thinking of what his first meeting with the kagan might result with. The bronzerider mentally shrugged it off and lay a gentle kiss on Kora's temple. "And what about you, dear Kora. Will you learn to like me?"

"Supposing the people with them aren't too intimidated with the idea of planning a pet playdate with the Weyrwoman, that could work." Kora rolled her eyes. "I heard Inolyn found some in Jorindath's weyr, but I get the feeling sometimes that the Violets don't like Nayarath much." It was true that the Gold had been rude to Jorindath in the past, but that was only because the Violet had been in the way and the Gold was in a bad mood already. She had been helpful to Kelth, and attempted to get along with Jorindath, before, but Kora still worried about it.
They're just jealous that they lack in good mates. Nayarath rumbled and nuzzled Kayth cheerfully, all memories of Alduth apparently gone. Kelth had gotten caught by a Brown and Wuith, and Jorindath got along too well with that rude Bronze Hansth. It made perfect sense that the Violets didn't like the only queen capable of attracting someone suitable. ((Of course, Wuith could prove suitable someday. xD))
"He likes people easily enough, as long as they're not noisy or anything. He was hiding last night... he might not even blame you for the scare." What the Kagen didn't actually see couldn't hurt him too much. Kora smiled as D'mas kissed her. "I'm liking you some already." Hopefully he liked her too, or at least would learn to. Nayarath and Kayth at least seemed to be getting along very well.

((That is if Wuith doesn’t catch Kelth again )) “If I know Inolyn and Jorindath, they wouldn’t be upset. They never let anything get them down before.” D’mas having a bronze, one in his position couldn’t help but notice the queen in such close proximities. The feeling had been odd, no matter what he always found himself offering her assistance and watching them from the corner of his eye. An instinct that must have slipped into his sub-consciousness, back before he had better control on the bond with his dragon. They should try harder, maybe they could if they could just be more like you Kayth crooned. It didn’t make sense that the queens shouldn’t like each other. Jorindath liked everyone though, it was part of her charm. “Well I’m liking you some already too,” Another charming smile and playful words, but he meant his words. Kora had much more appeal then just being Weyrwoman, behind her dragon she was just a human being. A woman who had had her heart dropped on the floor by Y’xem when he abandoned her and turned his back on them all. He kissed her again gently, he couldn’t take back what had been done but he could try to heal it.

((Yup. Lots of fun factors out there to slow his ascent. xP))
Kora shrugged. "We'll see, I guess." She could always ignore whatever Nayarath had to say, and hope that if she had some snide comment to make to the Violet, Jorindath would ignore it too. But it wasn't likely, and the Gold would be offended if she wasn't listened to... they already had plenty of experience with that.
Maybe. Nayarath figured she was just better though; why wouldn't a dragon prefer a Gold over a Violet? Kelth had hatched the same time as Nayarath, the Gold had never known a time without Violets, but the smaller queens were still viewed as mutations, while Golds were still 'normal'. She didn't really get it, but that was just another factor in her favor.
Not that it's a competition. Kora gave her dragon a stern look. They didn't have any reason to worry about that really; Nayarath was still senior, still Gold, Kora was still Weyrwoman.
"Good to know." Kora was growing more pleased with Nayarath's choice of winner by the second. D'mas at least had enough charm to keep her interested... and enough kisses. She returned his, briefly, then rested her head on his shoulder, her thoughts starting to wander. This was going to be a big change, maybe not for the whole Weyr, but for her. The idea was still sort of sinking in.
