Probably the best thing about the Weyr, to Aleyi at least, was all the food. There had always been enough at the little Hold she had grown up at, but not any sort of surplus and how they just put food out like this for people to grab... she had never imagined she would be in a place that did that. She liked the idea very, very much and piled her plate high with everything that happened to catch her fancy.
The downfall of the Weyr were all the chores she had to do... dull, dull, dull. There had been chores at home, but they were simple ones like sweeping up the kitchen or weeding a portion of the garden. Perhaps they were similar here, but everything was so much bigger!
Well.... all the food was worth it, she supposed. Dragonriders probably had to work harder, caring for those giant beasts they had. Aleyi grinned, imagining herself on the back of a Blue like the one that had brought her over. They were one of the smaller colors weren't they? And yet he had been gigantic.
Thinking about that, she took a big bite of a redfruit and set to noisily chewing.

"Whew." There! A last bit of fruit was adjusted before the girl leaned back and nodded as if to signal the food was now ready to be eaten. Satisfied with a job well done, Sabine placed her hands on her hips and surveyed the table. Everything was in place, none of the trays were low, and everything was fresh. Even the klah was still steaming. "I think we're done, Philo." The green crooned in agreement from her shoulder, and the Candidate smiled, pleased with herself. Her morning chores were done well before they needed to be, and she knew-
Grnlkihgrr. A cramp in her stomach announced it's protest to the fact that it had run out of energy. Her freetime would have to wait, it looked like. Ah well, some food would do her good. "Hungry, darling?" Philo chittered and Sabine rolled her eyes. Of course her green was hungry. When wasn't she? "You know, it's kind of ridiculous how you can eat all of this and still not gain an ounce." A bowl of meat scraps was procured from another side table while the young woman selected one of her favorites- bubbly pie. Now, where to sit? Green eyes searched the tables for any familiar faces, but none of the riders seemed to be up yet. But wait, who was that? A new Candidate? Might as well check the girl over, make sure she was adjusting nicely.
Weaving through the benches and tables, Sabine paused on the other side of the girl's table, smiling pleasantly. "Would you like some company?" Philo trilled from her perch and bobbed her head, wings flaring in an emphatic greeting.

C'it had been busy. Not the usual busy, no. He had been bathing for the past hour. Yep, an hour bath...just to make sure of course. Now he was completely starved and needed to fill his stomach, and there was nowhere else to do that except the Ktichens!
He piled a plate, fairly high for C'it, and looked around the Dining Hall for a place to sit that wasn't going to be very...uncomfortable with his eating habits.
He saw two Candidate girls and decided that they would not mind his 'crazy clean' eating.
" Hello there girls. May a rider sit and talk?" He smiled at them both.
Zuris was not very concerned who was offended or wierded out by his eating habits. He headed over to the same table with only three things in mind. One, Flirt...two, eat...and three, feed Whim.
Zuris had finished his chores...but he had not really liked them that much today...a little lame. Yet today seemed a little brighter as he sat the tray down and popped a piece of meat into Whim's mouth.
" Well hello there pretty ladies, care if I join you?"

"Sure." Aleyi's answer was to all three people's questions. How fun to have people join her! She smiled at the girl's Green, Aleyi loved fire-lizards, although she didn't have any of her own. Marks had been hard to come by at home and no-one seemed to want to give up fire-lizard eggs for free. Maybe she would get one here though; a flitt and a dragon would be fun.
"I'm Aleyi," she added quickly, continuing to smile. "What're your names?"

Thank Faranth. The bubbly pie was so hot the heat was beginning to make her fingers tingle. "Thank you." Sabine set her plate down and sat, crossing one leg over the other once they were under the table. She smiled towards both the blue rider and the male Candidate, moving Philo's bowl of meat to the end of the table where it wouldn't be in the way. Trilling to the brown, the female hopped from her humanpet's shoulder and onto the table, neck arching as she neared the bowl of food. "I am Sabine, and this little girl is Philo." The green crooned around a piece of meat before swallowing the chunk whole.
"What's your's?" Not wanting to appear impolite, she gestured to both men to take a seat either next to, or across from her and beside the other female Candidate.

C'it smiled and sat where he really wouldn't be in the way. " I'm C'it, my Blue dragon is Roluth. Wow...I'm so hungry right now." He bit into a redfruit and began to chew quietly.
Zuris though quickly surveyed the two girls and chose to sit next to Sabine. " Zuris is the name ladies, pleasure to meet you. This is Whim, my Brown fire-lizard." He gave the little fire-lizard another treat from the plate.
" So tell me, what have you lovely ladies been up to? It's a shame I haven't had the pleasure to meet you yet." Zuris smiled at Sabine before eating a small pastry.

"Hey Philo." Aleyi watched in fascination as the little Green swallowed her bite of meat. It was one of those amazing things about fire-lizards, you could watch them swallow and often see their food move down their neck if it was a big or solid enough bite.
"So am I." As though the Bluerider had reminded her too, Aleyi took another bite of her own redfruit. This time she chewed quieter, her parents, when they were there, always got after her for chewing noisily when people were around. She didn't see any reason to go to that trouble when she was alone, but now she had quite a group around her.
Zuris didn't look like he was paying much attention to Aleyi, but she didn't notice and so replied to his question anyways. "Eating, I guess." She looked down at her redfruit. It seemed an odd question to ask when it seemed quite obvious what everyone was doing.

Philo chirped at hearing her name and went nosing for another piece of meat. Sabine smiled at the girl's fascination, used to the reaction by now. "You can pet her if you'd like." The green had both feet in the bowl by now, and was paying no mind to her surroundings. "What did you say your name was?" She was sure the other girl hadn't said anything, but might as well make it look like she hadn't been paying attention rather than point out someone else's flaws. Which was quite possible considering that she was trying to hold a conversation with three different people at one time.
Sabine's attention drifted back to Zuris, and the smile remained in place. "Pleasure to meet you as well, both of you." A short nod was given to the brown, as well as an amused expression. She'd always had a soft spot for flitters. The Candidate's question, however, brought her back around she shrugged. "This and that. I'm usually running from one end of the Weyr to the other, so it's sort of a surprise we haven't met. Have you been here long?"
Roluth, Roluth...Where have I heard that name before? He looks somewhat familiar... Something was nagging at the forefront of her mind, and Sabine's attention snapped to C'it as recognition finally kicked in. "Roluth, you said? Wasn't he one of the Blues from the Unuth's clutch?" That must be it!

C'it smiled. " Yes he was. Glad to meet someone who knows us. Surprised that you remember that though, must be studying up?" He could sense Roluth gurgling on the near-by ledge.
Zuris smiled over at Aleyi. " No, I meant the last few weeks. Nice wit though." He laughed.
He looked back at Sabine. " No, I haven't really been here long Sabine. Really a shame that they have you running all over the place though, you'd think that they could find someone to help you out?"
Whim was now on the table slowly nibbling away at his Keeper's plate.

(("slowly nibbling away at his Keeper's plate" ... it sounds like he's eating the plate. *brick'd*))
"Really?" Aleyi grinned and reached out towards the little Grass. She didn't pet it though; the girl suspected they probably wouldn't want someone they didn't know just suddenly touching them, sort of like canines. There had been a lot of those back at home, not as many fire-lizards. "Oh... it's Aleyi."
She almost sniffed as Sabine spoke to C'it about Roluth- it seemed show-offish to her to be talking about the past clutches. Aleyi had only been at the Weyr a few days, of course she couldn't know that yet. Little things like the dragon's from past clutches would probably fail her memory anyways though, which bothered her a bit more.
"Oh. Not much. I rode a dragon though!" Aleyi's eyes widened slightly as she remembered the flight from her home to Nyocia. She had gotten to fly and go between and circle and land and touch a dragon! That had been exciting. If Zuris hadn't been here long he had probably ridden a dragon too, to get here. "That was amazing."

N'rek was somewhat amused as he scanned the Kitchens for a place to sit. Crith had thought it would be fun to get her rider wet during her morning bath, so his tunic and trousers were damp and his hair plastered wetly to his head. And he was riding sweep, so that meant he had to eat quickly to get out to his post on time. He didn't relish riding in damp clothes - chafing was practically bound to happen; Crith definitely wouldn't appreciate his complaining. Serves her right!
Not really. You are worse than a female when it comes to complaining about your appearance!
Spying a half-full table, N'rek headed towards it, sitting down beside C'it, who rode one of Crith's clutchmates. Nodding first to the Candidates, N'rek addressed them pleasantly before smiling broadly at the bluerider. "Candidates, Rider C'it. I hope I'm not intruding on anything important." Turning his attention to the candidates, N'rek grinned. "I'm Rider N'rek of Green Crith and I'm glad to meet you all."
"So C'it--" N'rek's sentence was cut off by a piercing shriek and a cold gust of air as Sith burst from between, fluttering around his rider's head before settling on his shoulder. N'rek frowned at the blue, fingers rubbing Sith's neck in an attempt to calm him down. Blushing, he began to explain to his tablemates the situation. "Sith doesn't take well to strangers and Crith loves to pester him." Sighing, the greenrider frowned again. "I hope Roluth doesn't give you as much trouble as Crith gives me. She can be impossible on some mornings. She thought today would be a good day to get me wet during her bath and now I have to ride sweep in damp clothes!"

C'it smiled as he listened to Aleyi talk about the dragon ride. He remembered that first ride too...but nothing beats riding your own dragon. C'it saw N'rek start to head their way and smiled, with a nod toward the other rider.
Zuris grinned. " Yeah, I rode one too! It was great! But I hear that riding your own is like one thousand times better than riding another's dragon!" He looked over to C'it.
C'it nodded. " Yes, it really--" Just then N'rek came up to sit down. " Ah, hey there N'rek...nothing going on here but great food and conversation!"
He laughed as the Green rider told him of his situation. " Roluth isn't really that disagreeable unless he is very hungry. Maybe she is close to rising? Who knows though...is she always like that?" He smiled, some riders had trouble with overactive dragons.

N'rek frowned, studiously sorting each item of food to its proper place on his plate. He was very particular about his food touching and Crith never failed to laugh at him because of it. She insisted that it didn't matter at all, but N'rek was firm about his beliefs when it came to eating, so her ridicule fell on deaf ears.
"It is a good possibility. She has become mean-tempered in the past before her Flights, so it could be a warning sign of sorts." N'rek scowled, picking at the piece of bread that lay on his plate absentmindedly. "If that's the case, she should be rising soon, and I'll expect to see you there." He grinned at the bluerider before taking a bite out of his mutilated bread.

"Yes, go right ahead Aleyi. She won't bite." C'it's comment caught her attention and the Candidate paused, blinking once before it finally sank in. A slight blush crept into her cheeks, and she cursed herself for feeling foolish. "No, not really. I just remember overhearing a conversation or two." If she failed to remember that she had actually been apart of those conversations, she said not a word, but recovered from the lapse quite quickly. It would do no good to think about the person she had been speaking with at the time. Instead, Sabine hid her awkwardness by taking her first bite of food, swallowing as she pondered Zuris's question. "I'm not sure. I could probably use the help though." She shrugged, not used to needing help. Sure, her tasks tended to be a little overbearing, but she somehow always managed to get them done. "I wouldn't mind in the least, but beware, some of them can be tedious."
A brief nod and a smile were offered to the greenrider, but she left the two men alone to continue their conversation. Instead, she focused on the excitement of her peers. "I've never ridden a dragon before. Is it really that wonderful?" And she a rider's daughter!
Philo, finished with her bowl of meat, stretched her wings and yawned widely. The touch of a finger made her chirp in surprise and she turned her head to face the unknown hand, relaxing her wings in the process. A soft croon was accompanied by her encouragement of sniffing Aleyi's hand, much like a feline or a dog would do. The flitter scooted forward and pushed her head into the girl's hand, rubbing an itchy spot against Aleyi's palm. Sabine smiled at her bond's actions. "See? Her favorite spot in right between her shoulder blades, but the top of her head itches every now and again."

" Really now? People talk that much about that clutch?" C'it smiled at her, but nodded. He turned his face back to N'rek.
" Well, of course it's all up to Roluth whether we are there or not. I'm sure we will be though, he has always had a soft spot for dragons near his age and size." C'it gave a modest wink.
Zuris grinned at Sabine. " Well, if you ever need any help...I'm glad to help someone as pretty as you. I certainly get done with my chores fast, mostly because I don't like to deal with them later." He watched Whim eat.
" Never ridden? Haven't you been around here for a while!? Well, Riding your dragon for the first time will be that much more special!" Zuris gave her a little happy smile.

Well, in the few days she had been here Aleyi hadn't heard much about the five-year-old clutch. Apparently not C'it either... Aleyi quickly lost interest in lingering on that as the little Green fire-lizard started rubbing her head against her palm. "Got an itch?" She smiled.
Aleyi didn't pay a lot of attention to the riders discussing Flights. Someday it might be important to her, but not right now. There were Candidates she could be talking to anyways... even though they seemed more interested in each other. It didn't seem quite right for all these people to join her only to start up conversations among themselves... Aleyi felt she was pretty too, anyways, but Zuris seemed more interested in complimenting the other girl. Huh.
"You've really never ridden?" Did people not just get rides at the Weyr? Aleyi sighed softly at that thought. Well... at least she would probably have her own dragon soon, then she could ride it whenever she wanted.

"Sure! I'd love the help. Would you like to help Aleyi?" She smiled at the female Candidate before moving on to their next topic.
"Really, I haven't. There's a lot of us who grew up at the Weyr and have yet to ride a dragon." Sabine shrugged, trying to rid herself of the envy she felt for both of them. The riders and their dragons were usually too busy to humor the rest of the weyrfolk with unimportant rides, and the retired riders were too old for impromptu adventures. Shards, they were usually in bed by the time she was finished! "You're both really lucky. Is between as wierd as they say it is?"
Philo trilled in encouragement and resettled her wings, her eyes swirling a gentle blue. Oh yeah, this was the life. A sudden idea occurred to Sabine and she brightened, looking straight at Aleyi. "Would you like a firelizard?"

Zuris smiled over at Aleyi. " Well we'll just have to try and get her a ride won't we?" He gave the other girl a wink before returning his gaze to Sabine.
" Now don't forget that I said I'd help, I'll help when I finish my chores if your fire-lizard comes to find me!" He grinned at Sabine happily.
C'it only half paid attention to their mild flirting. He slowly ate and mulled over what would come in the near future with a Clutch about to hatch and Thread falling....

Naps, where the life-blood of a healer sometimes. This was something Nixsha had come to believe heavily. She had just awakened from one of her numerous daily naps. She never really slept for more then two hours at a time, it was bad for her, but it was what she had to do as a healer. Since she was a Master Healer, and sometimes needed, she was to be called upon at all hours of the day. She had made her way down into the Kitchens, and managed to snatch herself some food.
She didn't look TOO bad at the moment, her hair was in one of its loose braids, but quite frankly, it was almost out of it. She looked haggard, and a little bit more then exhausted, but there really was no vacations for healers. Not with her studying on thread, which was coming, she needed to know more and more about it, to treat it better.
She was wearing one of her usual Tunic and leggings combinations, her boots only half laced. Whens he found a table to sit at, it already had a conversation going. "Please excuse my presence, I just need to eat..." She said lightly looking towards one of the members of the table, she remembered as one of the newer candidates. She yawned faintly and sipped her klah lightly, looking towards the others at the table. (( I do hope this is alright >.> ))

N'rek grinned at the bluerider, eyes lighting up with amusement. "She'll be glad to see you there, I'm sure." Sith nudged at his rider's head, eyes whirling a light blue color as he sent the greenrider an image of Crith pacing the ledge in front of their weyr. Almost as if on cue, the green's voice rang out in his head, grumbling at him to grab something portable and get to the Weyr Bowl so she could pick him up.
Stuffing a redfruit or two into his tunic pockets, N'rek nodded at C'it, dismissing himself with a simple, "Crith says it's time for sweep. I need to get out to the bowl." Handing off his plate to a drudge, N'rek quickly exited the dining hall with Sith in tow.
