((Yeah... I told Nick I'd do this on a different day so I'm hoping he guessed I wouldn't do it then... *hides anyways* Excited? xD)) The day was not one of bad weather, but it looked like there would be rain in a few days to come. The sky was a clear blue but ringed with dark storm clouds that very slowly encroached further on their circle. Nayarath had been watching this rather than her eggs- for the past many sevendays she had spent nearly her whole life staring at those eggs and was, quite frankly, sick of doing that. The clouds, sluggish as their movement was, at least moved! Her eggs were still as the grains of sand they rested on. As usual, Nayarath’s queen egg lay between her forelegs. The movement against the inside of her leg nearly caused the mighty dragon to jump in surprise; only instinct to protect the eggs stopped her from moving. Now would not be a good time to accidentally smash one of her young. Quickly turning her gaze from the slice of sky Nayarath could see from the caverns, she stared at the queen egg. It was shaking. Faintly maybe, but there was movement. Nayarath turned to glance over her other eggs. Most of them were moving, several much more violently than the queen egg, or any of the others. That would probably explain the humming Nayarath was finally realizing she was hearing. Did all the other fire-lizards and dragons in the Weyr realize her eggs were hatching before she had? How horrible. Nayarath would just have to keep that a secret. Mine, MINE! Kora was drowsing against Nayarath’s side. It was early afternoon, but the Weyrwoman was tired. Sitting around doing nothing but helping her Gold guard her eggs was, surprisingly, exhausting work. She came awake with a start and looked over the Sands with wide eyes. The eggs are hatching! Nayarath felt her own hum bubbling up in her throat and glanced at Lilac, who was whirring around the eggs excitedly. The Violet fire-lizard seemed more to be singing than humming, so high-pitched was the noise she made. Hopefully the eggs would wait a bit for the Candidates to start coming in… some looked ready to blow apart right then. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Gilt Egg: The Gilt egg is a soft golden color, it’s shade a little browner than the average gold though and sometimes looks more like the color of sand. It is touched with vertical streaks of brighter gold in regular intervals along its shell. The Gilt egg is probably a queen egg, but is very small for queen egg and could not be. Clash Egg: The Clash egg is very colorful, bright greens, blues, and purples fighting for dominance on its rough surface. It is a larger egg, almost bigger than the Gilt egg. Mercury Egg: The Mercury egg is very small, although not the smallest in the clutch. Its shell is covered with many shades of silver, some whiter and some grayer. In no place is its shade totally solid. Leaf Egg: The Leaf egg is a large egg and a very dark shade of green, spider-webbed with veins of brighter green. Stream Egg: The Stream egg is a very light silvery-blue and its round base is a darker, mossy shade. Rivulets of darker and lighter blues run across its surface, very much giving the egg the appearance of water. Ocean Egg: The Ocean egg is very similar to its neighbor, the Stream egg, but with darker shades of blue and its base is not green but more brown. Green and white freckle the top of the egg. Pale Egg: The Pale egg is a very light shade of peach, touched with shades that seem similar to bronze or copper on its sides. Swirl Egg: The Swirl egg is splashed with all the colors of the rainbow. Its colors are brightest at the slightly pointed tip of the egg and seem to mix more into muddier shades closer to the base. Glow Egg: The Glow egg’s shell is a creamy yellow shade, although streaked with bright greens and very light browns and tans in random places. Olive Egg: The Olive egg’s shell is a deep shade of brown-green and hatched with streaks of dark brown. Copper Egg: The Copper egg is just that: copper. Its base, though, is nearly black and its tip seems more bronze. Night Egg: The Night egg is a dark navy color, speckled with white, yellow, and faint reds as though the stars decided to reside on its shell. It is one of the smaller eggs. Talc Egg: The Talc egg is a powdery white color, like Talcum. Its surface is smoother than most eggs and sometimes feels as though it could just rub away. Leopard Egg: The Leopard egg is a tawny brown and splotched with yellow-tan spots that are lined with black. Other than the Gilt and Clash egg, it is probably the largest egg in the clutch. Grass Egg: The Grass egg is dark green at its base, but this fades to a more yellow-green at its tip like partly dried grass. Pebble Egg: The Pebble egg has a slightly silver sheen, but is overall more gray and specked with black and tan. Glass Egg: The Glass egg has a silvery-white sheen, almost like that of metal. It looks delicate because of its very smooth shell and smaller size, but is as strong as any other dragon egg. Steel Egg: The Steel egg is a light, steely blue-gray shade. There are a few spots of brown-red smudging its surface, but otherwise its color is very pure. Shadow Egg: The Shadow egg is a very dark brown-green shade and looks like a large, round spot of darkness among the eggs. It is near the center of the clutch, making its appearance stand out a bit more even. Morning Egg: The Morning egg has a lavender tinge to it and is overall a dusky blue-purple. The very tip of the egg is touched with a pink-yellow. Spark Egg: The Spark egg is a smoky gray color and flecked with bright oranges and yellows. Spray Egg: The Spray egg has a dark green-blue base but is covered with flecks of foam white, green, black, and tan. Satin Egg: The Satin egg is a dark navy blue with a sheen of silver too it that makes it look smooth and shiny. Moss Egg: The Moss egg is a dark green with streaks of other shades of green all over it. Honey Egg: The Honey egg is a dark gold-bronze-brown color, although much, much too small to be even considered a queen egg. It is, in fact, one of the smallest in the clutch. Its color has a liquid sheen to it. Oak Egg: The Oak egg has a dark brown color to it, touched with coppery shades near its base and tip. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dragonets 26/26 (in order of hatching):Tan TinderethBlue TinthBronze KaythBrown GrimthTan JohannesthGreen MaidenethViolet JorindathBronze JacklithTan ThiethGreen ElisthGreen PeathBlue DwarthBlue PeasanthBronze HansethGreen CindellathBrown ToathBarred MermaiyethBarred HollethBronze HansthBlue JerglithBrown BrementhBrown FirthGreen MaiathBarred FaladathBrown PrincthGreen NightingalathImpressions: 26/26Blue Tinth to R'merTan Tindereth to K'inBronze Kayth to D'masBrown Grimth to J'kylGreen Maideneth to EarisaTan Johannesth to N'renTan Thieth to A'thewBronze Jacklith to Z'risGreen Elisth to V'ireViolet Jorindath to InolynGreen Peath to Ash'nBlue Peasanth to L'noenBronze Hanseth to No'lnGreen Cindellath to ZennielBrown Toath to MeagenBlue Dwarth to D'ianBarred Mermaiyeth to RebekahBarred Holleth to AmarnaBronze Hansth to T'latBlue Jerglith to AleyiBrown Brementh to K'lanBrown Firth to M'ranGreen Maiath to ZadariBarred Faladath to SabineBrown Princth to D'rshanGreen Nightingalath to KaylaDuds/Betweenings: 0/26-none yet- ((Now you all have to go listen to this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yn0KCBp7HRQ It's our hatching theme song. ))

Immediately on her arrival, they had given Gwenduinne a white robe, a belt and instructions for what to do when the humming started. It did so, to her relief, at a reasonably convenient time. She had honestly predicted that the eggs would hatch at oh dark thirty.
Okay. So, robe...it fit her well enough, but was kind of shapeless. The belt helped. Remembering the warning about dodging hatchlings, she tied her hair back into a runner tail. She didn't need it falling across her eyes at a key moment. Then she walked quickly but decorously to the Sands and was, amazingly, one of the first there. She bowed to the queen. "Thank you," she said to the great dragon before taking a position from which she could see the only egg she really cared about. It was shaking a little, she noticed. Must be hard work, getting out.
--
To say Rumer was ready for the eggs to hatch was a total lie. He tugged on the robe he'd been given, but completely forgot to belt it...then again, he didn't really have a waist to show anyway. He ran to the Sands, terrified he was going to somehow miss the hatching. Of course, the fat boy's idea of a run was more like a jog trot. When he finally got there, he tried to stop and fell flat on his face on the Sand. Fortunately, he was a long way from the eggs.
He was breathing too hard to get up right away, but just kind of laid there, sprawled and covered in sand. Which was hot. Ow. Ow. Ow.

Darshan had been both anticipating and dreading the Hatching ever since he had gone to touch the eggs. So when the humming that cued the candidates to get to the Sands began, he almost didn't want to get up. After all, what was the point if he was nearly too old to Impress anyway? Heaving a sigh of defeat, he forced himself to get up and wash his face and hands, tugging on the white robe gingerly.
It was a bit too short, but that was understandable. Darshan didn't really see the point in complaining about it and just began the short walk to the Sands. Running a hand through his hair in nervous apprehension, he was surprised to see that he was indeed one of the few people actually there.
Spying a fallen candidate, Darshan went to them, bending down and offering a hand up. "Need a hand? We don't want you down on the sands when the eggs start to hatch - they can be dangerous if you can't get out of the way."

Telat was a bit neverous having to go out in front of all those people. This was compounded that he would not have his knife to twril. He felt Iron's reassuring weight on his shoulder and the little firelizard chriped at him to reassure him. He looked at Iron and decided it would be ok. He made the short walk to the sands a bit slowly becuase of his nervousness. When he reached them he just sighed and looked at Iron again. When he walked onto them and he saw where a boy was helping Remur up and he walked over to were his friend had fallen down and looked at him and asked him " Are you ok my friend?"

Aleyi was happy to drop her current chore (sweeping, such an exciting pasttime) and run back to the Candidate barracks. She threw her robe over her head, quickly tightened her belt, donned the light sandles that she doubted would make any difference against the heat of the Sands, and rushed out again.
The sound of dragon humming wasn't quite as loud as she had expected it to be, maybe only because the Hatching was only starting. No matter... she quickly managed to find her way to the Sands a second time and hurried on. The sand's heat went right through her sandles and when she took up a place near the only other girl present- it was quite amazing that she was one of the first few here- and so Aleyi didn't quite stand but shifted uncomfortably from one foot to the other.
Hopefully the eggs would all hatch quickly, she wasn't quite sure how much she liked just standing here getting burnt.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nev gave both his fire-lizards the order to wait in the Candidate barracks, and Tak an extra one to make sure Torch did. He didn't need his flitts coming out on the Sands with him, it would only be distracting. He wasn't quite sure the queen would like it either. His instructions given to them, Nev quickly dressed in the robe, belt and sandles Candidates had to wear and hurried to the Hatching Sands.
It had been three years since last time he had stood here... hopefully he would have better luck this time when it came to Impressing. It looked like one boy was having bad luck already... he had fallen over and didn't look like he was about to get up. Joining the other boy reaching out to help him, he looked down uncertainly at the Candidate and then back at Nayarath and the violently wobbling eggs.
"They can," he agreed softly, only catching the end of the other standing Candidate's words. Hopefully the one who had fallen wouldn't be too badly burnt.
Amarna was surprised to learn that the eggs were hatching. She had expected it, but she hadn't expected it then. She didn't even need the queen to tell her with all the dragons around humming for the new arrival of the dragons. She threw off her skirt and blouse and grabbed the candidate gown that was nearby. She made a small rip in the sleeve while ruffly yanking the thin material on, but she didn't even notice it that much. All that she really wanted was a dragon, weather it was Violet, Gold, Green, or even Blue, she knew that what chose her was best for her. Smiling, she calmly walked toward the hatching sands, ready for anything.
****************************************************
Jokyl lazily changed into his thin white garment. Kifer, who had been out eating, suddenly came from between right in front of Jokyl. Jokyl was only slightly surpirsed, before quickly letting Kifer wrap himself around his neck and walking toward the hatching sands. By the time Jokyl had arrived, Kifer was fast asleep, not even aware of the hatching that was happening.
Lanoen
The raven-haired candidate was sitting outside, working carefully on a small carving of a dragon. He thought it might rain later, and he wanted to spend time outside before having to be cooped up in the candidate barracks. He looked up as a hum slowly began to spread through the Weyr. It took him a moment to realize what it was, and when he did, he dropped what he was doing and ran for the candidate barracks. He changed into his white candidate robe and hurried to the Hatching Grounds.
He jumped in surprise at the heat of the sands, but quickly composed himself and strode up to the clutch. He bowed low to the Gold and then joined the other candidates around the eggs. His expression was calm as usual, but inside, he was excited and nervous. This day could change his life.
Mieran
Mieran gasped in surprise when the hum echoed through the Weyr. Was the Hatching really happening so soon? Grinning, he changed into his robes, then hurried for the Hatching Grounds. He couldn't wait to see the babies, even if he didn't Impress. Of course, he hoped that he would, but even if he didn't, the Hatching would be a wonderful experience. He also wanted to be there in case more Healers were needed. He had a small pot of numbweed and bandaids in his pocket just in case. It was always best to be prepared.
The eggs looked ready to burst open at any second, and there was no telling which one would be first. He bowed to the Queen and went to stand with the other candidates. Noticing that Rumer had taken a tumble, Mieran smiled at the other boy. "Hey, I have some numbweed in my pocket, if you want it," he said, not even realizing how odd that sounded.
Damian Damian leaped out of his bed with a start when he heard the humming coming from, what could only be, the dragons of the Weyr. He couldn't help the look of excitement that came to his face as he ran to where he had placed the robe he had gotten when he had arrived, and started to tug it on as fast as he could. It was a good thing that he usually sleep in his close or it would have taken him much longer to get dressed. But after he had finally got the white robe on, which was a bit small for him in cretin areas, and he slipped on the sanddles he had been told to where, Damian ran out of his room in the Candidate barracks and ran for the sands as fast as he could, fixing his bed head with his fingers as he did so. He was not about to go to the hatching were he WOULD impress looking like he had just rolled out of bed after spending a whole night with a woman.
Once he had finally reached the sands, Damian was not surprised to see that others had already arrived. He looked around the sands to see if his Meagen had already arrived, but she was no where to be seen. But as he looked around, his eyes caught someone else he recognized all to well. Telat, the young man that had attacked him in the lower caverns after he had left the touching in disgrace. He couldn't help the glare of hatred that came to his eyes when he saw the other candidate, but he pushed that down swiftly. This was no time to start a tiff.
Turning his attentions back to the eggs he looked at them and wondered which one would be his? He had to impress to prove Meagen wrong! Damian could impress one of these little dragons and he would prove it to his Meagen. He was still mad at Meagen for what she had said at the touching. But he couldn't get over his feeling for her. He wished he could though... That would have made life so much easier.Kamrin Kamrin, who was petting the hawk that was perched on his wrist, which was thankfully guarded with a bracer, was startled when he heard the humming start. He had woken up very early in the morning, do to the fact that he had been woken up by a nasty nightmare, and, after that, he had gone outside to drink in the morning air and try to pull comfort from his hawk, Avair, as he watching the sunrise.
Leaping to his feet when the Humming started, Avair leaped into the air with a scratch of surprise and started to flap his wings franticly as his little head looked around for what had made Kamrin leap up like that. Realizing how badly had startled the hawk, Kamrin said, "Sorry Avair, but the humming has started. You stay here. I need to go to the hatching sands and 'hopefully' I will impress to a dragon," Kamrin stressed the hopefully do to the fact that he truly wanted to impress. He loved the life of a Candidate, but the life of a rider... It was almost more then he could image. He wanted to be able to protect the people of this weyr and he knew that and the holds that tithed to it. He knew that he would be able to do it if he had a dragon there to help him do so.
Running to his room in the candidate barracks, leaving the hawk behind to wait for his return, Kamrin ran to where he had placed the robe that he would have to wear during the hatching and pulled it on over his clothes. Putting the belt on swiftly and slipping on the sanddles that he would have to wear as well. Then ran for the sands as fast as he legs would carry him. He didn't want to be the last to show up.
Finally reaching the sands, which seemed to take forever in his excitement, Kamrin saw that many of the other candidates had already showed up at on the hatching sands. Running his hands through he long black hair, which he had forgotten to put up that morning, Kamrin saw the fallen young candidate laying in the sands. Kamrin winced at the site, but his eyes only remained on the other candidate for a few moments as his eyes turned to the shaking eggs and the queen dragon.
"Thank you for letting me on your sands again beautiful queen Nayarath," Kamrin said as he bowed to the queen dragon respectfully as he tried to ignore the heat of the sands. He had always been really bad with large amounts of heat but he would deal if it meant he would be able to get one of the queens hatchlings.
Meagen yawned as she looked out her window. She always awakened early, because of her flitters. It had ALMOST been a dead sleep about thirty candlemarks ago(Minutes), but she was slowly waking all the way up. Amber brown eyes stared at all the others that where sleeping. She knew that rushing to a hatching did you no good, but she wouldn't be late either. In all actuality she had one egg in her mind and it wasn't the largest egg of the clutch, but the one that almost beat the queen egg in size, and its colors that intrigued her. The Clash Egg was what was on her mind.
Her fair took to the air and popped away, heading to a ledge to hum at the hatching. Meagen got up and slowly braided her hair, it does you no good to rush. If the dragon meant for you is there, it WILL find you. She slipped the robe over her head, and hummed lightly as she pulled her braid out, and let it drop over her back. Only Hope had stayed with her, the golden queen wrapped around her neck, like a necklace. Humming up a storm, the little queen was excited for a new addition to their happy family.
Meagen walked while others ran, and managed to snag a small meatroll, before she walked unto the sands. Having shared it with Hope, there wasn't a sign of the food she had eaten. Her feet started to burn, but she steeled her mind to remember past pains, that hurt thousands of times more then the burning sands beneath her feet. Her head lifted up as she made her way over to the other female candidates, and swept a light bow. Whistling a command to Hope as she did, the gold taking off and ledging with the rest of Meagen's flitters. Humming up a storm for the children to come.
"I thank you greatly, Great Golden Nayarath, for allowing me to stand at the birth of your children..." She said lightly. She straightened and looked around her, amber eyes taking in the shaking orbs. Unlike most she focused on the Clash Egg, ignoring most of the others. She even ignored the presence of the male, that kept her mind distracted.
A Tan was the first to hatch, knocking about in the Swirl egg until finally coming fully out onto the Sands while a few Candidates were still walking on. His light hide glistened with liquid from the eggshell and he gave himself a quick shake, although that did little to shed himself of the egg goo. Nayarath crooned softly. A Tan was not a Bronze, but was close to one. He could easily mean this would be a good clutch, even if a Bronze was the more common omen. The Tan glanced back at his mother and then started towards the Candidates. Although he inspected each boy, he didn’t seem quite sure yet who he wanted. A Blue followed, struggling free of the confines of the Steel egg. He stood, took a step, and stumbled into another violently quivering egg. It didn’t break under the dragonet’s weight though and he was soon on his way again. The Blue paid little attention to his larger brother who was still inspecting the boys and bounded towards the Candidates. A second fall carried him into Kamrin, but he struggled up quickly and hurried away, probably leaving the unlucky boy with a few nasty scratches. The Blue stopped again in front of the fallen Rumer. Dipping his head, he shoved his nose under the boy's chest as though trying to roll him over. Tinth is so excited to find a lifemate, R’merMine! Could you get up and feed me? I am very hungry too.The Tan looked quite shocked by his smaller clutch-brother’s actions and hurried to the side of the boy Tinth had crashed into. Tindereth is so sorry you were hurt, K’in! I will be with you now. He nuzzled the boy comfortingly. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Dragon Name and Color: Blue Tinth Name Origin: In ‘The Steadfast Tin Soldier’ a soldier who wanted to marry a paper dancer ended up going on a journey of sorts and then getting burned with the dancer in the fireplace. Age: Hatchling Appearance: Tinth’s hide has the color of deep, still water and his exact shade seems just as inconsistent. There are slight ‘ripples’ of darker and lighter colors throughout his body and when he moves it seems to make it seem like he is moving a lot more than he really is. Tinth is a middle-sized Blue at 26 meters. Personality: Like his hide, Tinth has a very inconsistent personality. He is nervous around larger dragons and prefers the safety of those more his size or smaller, but it is otherwise hard to guess at how he will be feeling at any time. Sometimes he is cheerful, but can turn suddenly very sad and seems extraordinarily emphatic around anyone which often seems to lead to his sudden mood changes. Color Code: 3847B5 Rider: R’merDragon Name and Color: Tan Tindereth Name Origin: A soldier came upon a magical tinder-box that made him rich in the story ‘The Tinder-box’. Age: Hatchling Appearance: Tindereth’s appearance perfectly fits the perfect Tan. His hide is a rich tan shade and the stripe that runs down his back is narrow and black. There are stripes that start about midway down each of his legs and circle down to his feet, which are solid black. Also a large Tan, Tindereth easily crests 43 meters in length. Personality: Tindereth is a spirited dragon, he always seems to have energy, although not an excess of it like you might see in a Grass and always seems eager to do anything. Tindereth is always trying to spread his energy among other dragons too and likes to play and chat with others. Color Code: tan or D2B48C Rider: K’in
R'mer groaned and tried to pick himself up, but even with the other Candidate's help, it was not happening. Then somebody else nudged him. He managed to get to his knees. Oh wait. It wasn't a person he was looking right at, but a dragonet. "Wow!" the overweight boy managed. Then a more heartfelt, "Wow" as the blue's mind linked with his.
He honestly hadn't been expecting to Impress. He wasn't worth it..and Tinth sent straight to him, Of course you are! I'm so glad to have found you!
R'mer laughed and finally got to his feet, only then realizing he had minor burns from the Sands. Ow."Numbweed would be...good...I don't want to upset Tinth!" He frowned, then, a little upset as he realized Tinth had knocked Kamrin down. But he hadn't -intended- to.
Wow. Nobody would ever, ever hurt him again now. Tinth would not let them.
--
Gwenduinne stood aloof. She ignored the blue choosing the fat boy...he'd have to lose that weight now...but paid a little attention to the tan's choice. Poor kid had been bowled over by the blue and she resolved not to let that happen to -her-.
'Ok, lets do this.' that was what Kayla had to tell herself as she started dressing for the hatching which she had just gotten word of, had started. The white robe and sandals she had to put on. She tried to calm herself although with every effort she tried the excitement came back more intense then before. She knew very well that this could end up being the most important day of her life and she knew it. Kayla took a second to breath and then she started rushing over toward the hatching sands. She quickly got over there, making sure not to trip and fall. It didn't take her long to get there since the candidate barracks were quite close to the hatching grounds for obvious reasons. Once on the sand she bowed in greeting the golden queen before taking her spot by the other candidates.
'Wow there fast!' she though since a lot the them were already there and the hatching seemed to have just started not long ago since the humming from the dragons was pretty quite currently. She looked over at the eggs, some shaking intensely while others were a bit more quiet. She kept to herself her excitement and looked around with an unreadable expression on her face, could it be determination, excitement, or anxiety? Well in truth it was all of those things. The reason she was here was because of her best friend and her love of dragons. Although he parents didn't approve of it she followed her dreams and those dreams led her to where she was now. On the hatching sands, hoping to impress a dragon and become a rider like she had always dreamed. She looked over at the newly hatched dragons and smiled, they were so cute!
Meagen smiled softly at the arrival of a blue and a tan. Clapping lightly at the impressions, her attention not drawn too long from the egg she was watching. She looked towards another girl amongst the candidates, what did she call herself, oh yeah Gwen. Why did something about that other young woman annoy the tar outta Meagen? Some reason, she just knew they would never get along. She was on the ready though, if something happened to a hatchling she would jump to help, if any where majorly damaged.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The MasterHealer wiped her hands clean as she patted the womans cheek. "Healthy boy... congratulations mam..." She said lightly. Nixsha smiled brightly at the womans strained look, but laughed faintly. She loved births, and had proceeded over this one, because the woman had many difficulties in the pregnancy. She hummed lightly and then stopped, when she realized there was a throbbing feeling in her body. As well as all around her, then a drudge ran into the room, screaming something about a hatching.
Nixsha grabbed up her waist contraption that held the multitude of pouches with her supplies, and took off towards the sands. She looked in decent condition, if you ignored the few splatters of birthing liquid that dotted her tunic's edges. Her titian locks where pulled back as usual, but they where almost out of their braid, as she made her way to where the Healers where waiting to treat those that needed it. She would be up in the stands, but she wanted to aid the ones that where impressing. She liked treating injuries.
Patiently the green clad woman watched the hatchlings, a smile spreading across her lips. A tan first, she liked that color, and it impressed to a strong young man. Then there was a blue as well, that impressed pretty well. Both looked like they might need some numbweed.

Mieran grinned as two eggs hatched, revealing a Tan and a Blue who were, needless to say, adorable. Aww, look at the cute ickle clumsy critter! Oh...ow, a little too clumsy. He winced as the Tan bowled over Kamrin, and he was about to go over and offer numbweed when he realized that Kamrin had Impressed. He pocketed the numbweed again. The way things were going, he should save it for later in the Hatching. He saw that Rumer had Impressed to the Blue, and he wistfully watched the pairs walk off. They seemed so happy!
***
Lanoen stumbled backwards as the Tan barreled towards the candidates, even knocking one of them down. He would have to watch out for more stampeding hatchlings. Then, he realized that Kamrin had Impressed to the Tan. If that was what it took, maybe getting mauled wasn't quite so bad. He shook his head. Hopefully, his dragon, if there was one in this clutch, would be able to find him without running him over.

Ashdin Ashdin, who was not a morning person, moaned in his sleep as a annoying humming sound came to his ears and didn't show any signs of stopping anytime so. "What in the name of Faranth is that annoying humming sound?" Ashdin moaned to himself as he tried to cover his ears with his pillow to keep the sound out, but it didn't even muffle the sound. Moaning again, Ashdin threw the pillow on to the ground and shoot up in his bed in his irritation. It was apparent that someone wanted him up and, though he didn't want to be up, it didn't seem like he really had much of a choice. Getting up off of his bed, Ashdin walked over to his wardrobe to pull out a set of close and that was when he realized what was happening.
When his eyes landed on the white robe he would have to wear at the hatching was when he realized what was happening. He was being called to the hatching sands for the hatching! Realizing this, Ashdin shouted, "Shards!" and pulled out a set of clothing and the robe. He wished that he wasn't to late as he pulled on his clothing, and the robe, and put on the sanddles that he had been told to wear. After he had all of these on, he quickly ran a brush through his hair and then ran out of his room, heading in the direction of the hatching sands. He stumbled a few times on his way seeing as he was still very drowsy.
When he finally reached the sands, Ashdin slowed down so he wouldn't run into any of the eggs or any of the many candidates that had already shown themselves. He clenched his teeth against a yawn that threatened to come from him as he looked around at all the shaking eggs with his, now huge, golden eyes. Maybe there was a dragon out there for him?
As he looked around at the eggs, Ashdin couldn't miss the little blue that seemed to be stumbling around and he couldn't help but snicker to himself at the sight. That is, until the little dragon ran into one of the more handsome candidates, Kamrin. Oh that poor beauty, Ashdin thought to himself with a sad little shake of his head. But after the little blue stumbled away form the fallen male and to another plump one, the little tan that had hatched ran to the fallen young man and started to nuzzle him. He smiled as he watched the two impressions and turned his attention back to the other eggs. He did hope that nothing like what happened with Kamrin happened to him though. He didn't handle pain all that well...Kellan Kellan, who was used to waking up at extremely early hours, had waken up well before the sun's light had touched the sky. Though he had no reason for doing this anymore, it was often very heard to brake old habits when you have lived with them most of your life. He had to admit that he would have preferred to be able to sleep normal hours. But he knew that would most likely never happen. It was often hard to brake old habits and he knew that was truth in more then one way. Sense he had came to the weyr, he had found himself fighting his want to take things without permission everyday. He was a thief and he was not used to asking for stuff! Or at least he had been a thief and holdless. But now he, Kellan the holdless thief, was a candidate at Nyocia weyr and he couldn't wait until he impressed! If he did... He still didn't see it as a possibility after all he had done. But, apparently, the dragons did for they were the ones that could tell if a person could be a candidate or not.
The a soft chirping from a near by tree pulled Kellan out of his thoughts as he turned his face up to look at the green fire-lizard that had called for his attention. But she was not the only fire-lizard that looked down at him from the tree that he now looked at. There were five in all and they were the only real family he had ever known thus far. Putting the knife that he had been using to chip away pieces off of a stick, and throwing the stick to the side, Kellan gave the flits a whistle and the five flow down from the tree and landed on him or around him. The two greens landed on each of his shoulders. The brown landed on one of his knees and the two blue flits landed on the ground near were he sat as he said, "Hello my dears, sorry if you were there long and I didn't notice you. I was deep in thought about things that had happened in the past." They all chirped understanding little chirps as the two greens nuzzled his cheeks, the brown tilted his head a little, and the twos nuzzled his hands. Then, suddenly a humming came to all of their ears and the flits leaped into the air with excited chirps of joy as they new all to well what the humming mean. The hatching had started!
Leaping to his feet, Kellan ran for the barracks with his fair of flits on his tail. Running into his room, he grabbed the robe that he had been told to wear and threw it on. Looking around the room for the belt that came with it, Kellan started to worry that he had lost it. But, a few moments later, Rain and Skye flew to him with the belt hanging in their claws. "Thank you," Kellan said as he took it from them and put it on. Running to where he had put the sanddles just the other day. Kellan pulled them on and then ran out the door with his flits close behind him. He couldn't believe it! The hatching! The hatching was starting! The question was, would he impress?
Running to the hatching sand as fast as his legs would carry him. Kellan came to a complete stop when he reached the enterance to the sands. It was then that he started to second guess if the dragon that had searched him was right to do so. After all, he was a thief! Would a dragon ever choose a thief as their rider? He wasn't sure, but he wanted to find out. After all, impressing a dragon had always been his dream. Yes, he would try and if he didn't impress, he didn't impress. With that, he gulped and walked on to the sands. He hated to be around so many people, but it was something that he would have to deal with if he was going to impress. But he did try to stay away from the others. He was still not used to the idea that they wouldn't start chasing him shouting thief...Kamrin Kamrin was startled when he was bowled over by the little blue and he toppled over into the burning sand as the blue fall atop of him, giving him a nasty scratch across the chest, the upper half of his right leg, and upper left arm. He cried out in surprise and pain as this happened and he couldn't help the tears that came to his eyes as pain filled the whole of his body. He felt the blue scramble off of him almost instantly, relieving the weight that he had placed on the now injured candidate and Kamrin pushed himself off of the burning sand as fast as he could.
Shards, it hurts! Kamrin thought to himself as he tried to force the pain away and the tears back. He couldn't stand properly on his right leg, do to the scratch that had been placed on it by the blue, so he had to place most of his weight on his left leg. He cradled his left arm with his right as he tried to take some of the pressure that was causing a great deal of the pain but he could do nothing about the burns or the scratch across his chest. He wanted the pain to go away, but he was not going to leave the sand until he either impressed or all of the dragons had impressed.
Kamrin didn't have to wait long for his impression though, for right as he got himself to stand up, the little tan dragon that had hatched, ran up to him again and spoke to him as he nuzzled him comfortingly. Kamrin felt his heart leap into his throat as he heard the dragons words with in his mind and his tears turned from those of pain to those of happiness. Yes, he was still in a great amount of pain, but that seemed to be trivial in comparison to the connection that had just been crated between himself and his Tindereth.
Reaching out a shaking hand, Kamrin placed it on HIS dragon's head and rubbed gently behind the tan's eye ridges. "Don't worry about me Tindereth, I will be fine now that I have you by my side," Tindereth crooned lovingly to his K'in as his rubbed behind his eye ridges, even though he was still a little goo. After a little bit of this, Tindereth felt his hunger start to eat at him and he trilled to his, Yes, we are together now K'in-Mine. But you are injured and I hunger. Will you not feed me and attend to your wounds? He was still mad that his clutch brother had ran into his like that, but he had to worry about his and himself at the moment.

((please excuse lameness, i had a better one but it was lost when the site got lost in cyberspace when i was trying to post it))
Dramas had survived the scrambling of candidates trying to preare themselves for the lond awaiting hatching, only to have his feet burning almost quite litterally on the sands. In the rush he had forgotten to put on his thicker shoes. It didn't matter, there was no way he was running back for them now! The eggs were wobbling, some showing evidence of cracks. His hands clenched as he fought to contain his excitment, and fear. This was pretty much his one and only chance of forfilling her life long dream. Bowing to the queen he took his place...
Inolyn had been day dreaming, staring at the sky in hopes for an omen. The rain was holding up, that was possibly a good sign she thought to herself with a smile as she returned the the tubers she had been peeling. When the humming drifted up through the stone she nearly leapt in joy bt that would have sent the tubers flying everywhere. instead she placed the bowl on a spare bench and raced off for her white robe.
Flying into the hatching grounds she remembered to take it steady on the sands, not wanting to trip up and cause some damage. They were all excited, and Inolyn did her best to give everyone brave looks and jestures of encouragement.
In the lower caverns one girl found herself attacked as soon as the humming had started, the white robe being forsed over her head and pushing her out the door. Earisa might still be scared of Nayarath remembering her her spirits had been greatly lifted by the dragonless rider Zadari and it had given her the hope she had needed to keep going this far.
As she stepped onto the sands she bowed to the queen respectively and took her place roughing in the middle of te semi circle. This time i didn't forget, and this is for you Zadari. Thank you for believing in me

Humming? Why did things hum again? Ugh, she knew this one, yes, she knew it, it was right at the tip of her tongue. Dragons and firelizards hum when… Shard it! Beka’s brows drew together in a dark frown as she tried to remember why the candidates were scrambling for white robes. White robes… Uh… Oh! Hatching! Scrambling to her feet the moment the answer came. Sheesh, normally she wasn’t that slow, why had it taken her so long to come up with and answer everyone else had already reached?
Sighing softly as she grabbed the white robe easily, Beka shook her head slowly, the reason was clear. It was because she hadn’t been in the weyr that long, because they only ever told her anything once, and once wasn’t really enough to make it all sink in. Shards, she wished they’d tell her more, like what you were supposed to do. Be respectful, that was a given. Wriggling into the robe, Beka grabbed the sandals as she followed the other girls.
As she soon discovered, it was rather hard to put sandals on, and walk at the same time. There were quite a few times where she’d nearly fallen on her face and only stumbling forward had helped. Well, she had the sandals on now at least, that was saying something. Glancing at the shuddering eggs, Beka felt her heart pick up it’s pace, and the colour drained from her cheeks at the sight of so many people. She couldn’t do this, there was no way she could wade into that many people.. Oh shards. Shards, shards, shards. Biting down on her lip, Beka stepped forward, lifting her chin slightly to – hopefully – look braver than she felt. Bowing deeply to Nayarath, she smiled weakly, trying to hide the discomfort. “Hello Nayarath. It’s an honour to be able to stand for your children.” She whispered, glancing up before moving to stand with the other girls, further towards the back. She didn’t deserve this, but she wasn’t going to leave or give into her fear.
~
This was torture, pure and simple torture. How could she have let them talk her into this. The very first blue that hatched had her heart clenching with pain, the wound as raw as it ever had been. While others remembered their Impressions with tender smiles, Zadari watched it with a sinking heart. All she could hear was that soul shattering cry as Sitath blinked between.
“Stay, come on Zaddy, you need to face it some time.” D’nor’s voice was calm, but firm, his hand resting on her shoulder as she forced herself to continue breathing, despite the pain, mental and physical. People might say that grief is only a mental wound, those who said it had never lost a dragon. Watching the hatching, the pure bliss on their faces, it made her heart throb with pain. Once, that was her, once it was her dragon twining about her knees with a loving croon, and now every one expected her to be able to watch this without hating them?
Maybe this was not a good idea D’norMine. Laukarth spoke softly, mentally prodding her rider even as she continued to hum softly, No, she has to face it, she’s doing okay- She’s barely breathing. I won’t argue, but I don’t think it is a good thing. then she fell silent, returning all her attention to the babies with a happy croon. Hers could deal with the sad one.

Telat wacthed as the Remur impressed to the Blue and Karim impressed the Tan. This made him happy for his friends. Yet the sight of the blue left him with a strange sense of lonliness that he had felt was already gone as he thought of a little blue firelizard dieing in his arms. Irons reassuring weight on his shoulders was egough to make him fell a bit better, but that was it the strange sense of lonlyiness that had been there was still there. He felt a single tear roll down his face which he quickly wiped away and buried the felling where he did all the other bad fellings in his heart. He then stared at the other eggs wondering if his dragon was among them. Yet his pessimect view said that this was not so.

"Yes! Finally!" Sabine placed the oiling rag aside and grinned down at her little Green. Philo wasn't happy to be woken from her nap, but the bath had made everything better, as had the oiling. She trilled happily in response to her bond's joy but stopped mid-praise, head cocked with curiosity. A sudden flash of surprise trickled over to Sabine and she frowned in confusion. "What-" The sudden humming filling her ears made her jerk in surprise and nearly spill the jar of oil. "Shards, Phi! You could have told me sooner!" The Green chattered, directing the girl towards the trunk where the robe had been stored, and attempted to push the riding boots out from under the bed while Sabine pulled on the famous white garment. Philo got nowhere with her efforts, but her bond patted her anyways for the exertion, pulling on her boots without a care as to whether she was wearing stockings or not. This was the Hatching, for Faranth's sake! Who cared if she was wearing stockings beneath her robe? The humming seemed to increase in pitch and Philo suddenly betweened, leaving Sabine to frantically scurry for ties and a comb. Somethine would have to be done about her curls, but she could braid and run at the same time. Hopefully she hadn't missed anything yet...
The girl emerged onto the Sands moments later, breathless but with her hair done. Shards! She had already missed a few of the Hatchlings, but so many more had yet to emerge. The few she passed on the way to the circle of girls, she bid luck to. They'd all need every ounce they could get. The Tan, however, bid good health to all those who were to be born today. Hopefully it was just as good an omen as a Bronze. Taking a deep breath to settle her nerves, Sabine nodded to the girls already gathered, a giddy smile taking over her lips. She was here, she was Standing on the Sands, and there was a Hatching!

Aleyi swallowed as the Blue fell first into an egg and then a boy. Would that hurt? She would dodge if a dragonet looked like it was going to crash into her like that. The Candidate saw little reason to get herself all scratched up at a hatching. At least then the Tan came over and Impressed; but even if getting hurt earned you a dragon Aleyi didn't think it was worth it.
She glanced at the slightly wriggling queen egg. The hatchling inside wouldn't be for her, she was sure; she hadn't even visited it at the egg touching. But one of the girl's around her would get the Gold... Aleyi was still hoping for a Blue. That first ride to the Weyr had infatuated her with them.
~~~~~~~~~~
Nev watched the first couple of hatchlings with a slightly worried expression. The Blue was clumsy, but that could only be expected. Newborn runnerbeasts were just the same, and Torch hadn't had much control over his movement when he first hatched either.
At least both Impressed successfully, and a Tan was probably a good omen. There were more of them for when thing- two now- and they weren't much lower rank than a Bronze. If a Green had escaped its egg first Nev might have worried a bit for what the eggs held. But a Tan was very good.
He, apparently, would still have to wait though. Plenty of eggs were still shaking... twenty-four hatchlings left, twenty-four chances.
